The Most Memorable RP Moments and Characters

We have RPed all over the place, met some great people, and been involved in some great experiences.
Id love to hear about them, the great people you met, their characters, great moments you were involved in and why they were so great

I have to confess, I haven't really done RP in an MMO before, beyond goofing off with some friends.

That said, I am a writer and I have role played in an old M.U.D. called Blackgate MUX (guess that'd make it a MUX then, wouldn't it, haha.)

I didn't do much, but I'm looking for a little RP in TOR, when I feel in character and the mood strikes me.

I'm sorry I really can't think of a story to share, but it will be nice to see what other experiences people have had!

Might help me finish fleshing out my character ideas, give me the muse I need to join in on some RP and have a great time with everyone.

Well one that will always stick with me, was in SWG.

A very good friend of mine and fellow guild leader of our guild in that game IMPS called Pandorren (Who is quite a serious RP'er) had just begun our 3rd guild city, one on Dantooine called Imperator Tempestus (Imperial Storm in Latin) Which was to be our RP city.

Pan and me have always taken the mick out of each other, him being a northern monkey, and me a soft sotherner (English terms, hehe) We were forever winding one another up. Anyways, I was trying out RP pretty much as a newbie at the time, (PVP had just died) and I went in as a media mogul (Don't ask me why? lol) Anyways, Panners had just accused my char of something he had not done in RP, so me, having had a couple of beers one night after work, came home, and went onto our guild forums and in the section I posted this story about a news paper scandal my newspaper had just published, accusing Pandorren of having a Dantarri love child.....

I went to bed, and woke up in the morning to look at the boards......some 100 odd posts had been made, people had used photoshop etc, and came up with all manner of hilarious pictures of Panners toon with some Dantarri woman, and then a young Dantarri which they had claimed were photos taken from an unamed source.

The whole thing became hilarious with Panners char threatening to sue mine and so on, (Pan really hated this story, he had an in-game wife, and so on, and that story cause RP strife etc)

For me, I was just cheesing myself laughing, it went on for months, and Pan still hates that story to this day hahaha. I thought it was brilliant though, lol.

I know its one of those you 'have to be there' type things, but I promise you it was genius, haha, I only wish that site was still up, so I could copy and paste it over, it was amazing

That's the true spirit of RP IMO, not just staying in character ingame but taking the character storyline into new avenues (especially in comedy!!). RP can be LOADS of fun if you just think outside the box.

"Vivienne the mute mage" by Invisible. A great character by a great player. It was on a Neverwinter Nights server, it was memorable from the first time of meeting. A true sign of dedication to actually not have the character say a word, ever. And being a spellcaster using only silenced spells, so it definately wasn't about power.

At the time I was playing my rogue Sylrah (physically weak, but killer sneak attacks), who was tying herself into several opposing factions at the same time, betraying everyone that cared about her and still talking her way out of it. Even after opening the gates from the inside so the other faction could enter she was keeping ties, though that's where trust went out the door.

Good times.

I played a man called Mustafa Maliki in Age of Conan, a bandit/highwayman-leader (I ruled a guild of bandits, yes). He lied to everyone about his identity - but in a different manner. I was pretty famous on the server among roleplayers, mostly for my eccentric form of RP. There were many fun moments, but the funniest was probably meeting up with a couple of different people accidentally, who all knew a different version of my character. Now, the fun thing was, that I hadn't explained him out of character to anyone, either! So they were very confused to begin with, but soon realized (OOC) what I had been doing.

Aside from this I also had a complex assortment of alts that played entirely different roles, using them to infiltrate guilds. In the end, all my alts were connected in one way or another, and when this was revealed in an epic event before I quit playing, well, wow... it was a very awesome roleplaying moment There was a lot of drama and intrigue created, but surprisingly it had very little to do with my characters, who mostly did an elegant back-out-before-the-shit-hits-the-fan kind of thing

I would think my most memorable RP events were oddly enough Alliance side in WoW - and I say oddly because I almost exclusively played Horde.

I had rolled Alliance because of a druid only RP guild on the EU server "Moonglade" (my favorite class)... They had many nice IC meetings, and it was through them that I got to participate in the Moons Rise events they hold every month. A Night Elf guild (the leader of which is on the SWTOR forums) always held a sort of gathering at Zoram strand in Ashenvale, in honor of Elune. They started off with speeches, poetry and even prayers, all written by players, and then they would walk to the beach and wait for the actual in-game moon to rise

It may not sound like much - but it was always wonderful, there was actually something in the air, even though it was just a game.

Its the little things that bring the worlds alive

Well, I guess RP in a pen and paper aspect would work, so here goes a funny story from the Wizards of the Coast version of Star Wars.

A friend and I were playing in a Yuzhon Vong era campaign, and were trying to save a planet from a massive invasion (well, more then just the two of us, and there's some backstory of why they chose the planet for an evil plot.)

We were weary and tired from a long bout of fighting, and out DM threw us into another fight against some vong and a tank sort of monstrosity they had cooked up.

I looked at my friend, who was also playing a Jedi at the time, and had a clever idea. We were not going to survive the tank if we didn't do something quick (or the regular vong, for that matter,) so I suggested we pool our force abilities and dump our force points into...

Throwing the damn thing into outer space.

The look on our DM's face was priceless when we actually did all the math (or my friend did, he was a math genius,) and calculated we had enough force to hurtle something the size of the death star halfway around the planet if we wanted to.

It's times like those when you come up with the unexpected yet either funny or clever, that really make playing with other people great. We both passed out from the extreme effort, which we weren't sure really helped in the long run, but great fun was had.

There have been some amazing moments.

- in WoW, Horde side, a friend and I were selling junk at a merchant, doing some cooking, and other stuff wrapping up a questing session. As we did these things, we talked openly in character about all kinds of ic things, and things we had just experienced. A Forsaken approached to sell his junk and joined in. We ended up in a long deep philosophical discussion about his feelings about being Forsaken. His own view of the world and himself changed during the course of that discussion ranging from hate and rage to something more contemplative and philosophical. He said in a tell later that he never expected to seriously RP and was just passing the time until he got sucked in to it.

- In Age of Conan, an ic friend was being executed. It was a perma-death execution - we all signed on for that possibility when we joined the guild. There were about two weeks of lead-up RP from the time the sentence was pronounced until it was carried out. I begged for his life, questioned the verdict, questioned the evidence, attempted to discredit his accusers - all to no avail. Then another friend of his asked to speak with me. My character was heavy with pregnancy at the time. When I approached him to see what he had in mind, another character, a slave at the time (as punishment for a failed power play), who I also believed to be the manipulator/framer of our friend, approached. The man I was speaking to turned to speak with her, and kept my pregnant character standing there waiting while he chatted socially with - a slave! At this point my character was fuming. When he finally got around to speaking to her again, he asked her to assist in a plot to break our condemned friend free. She would have helped until the moment he left her standing there while he chatted socially with a slave. She already had a bit of secret information given to her by the condemned friend that would be useful in breaking him out and making his escape. She concealed what she knew but pretended to be interested in helping - as a ruse, to gain more information. She decided that if she could uncover enough information to turn them in, she would. Even better would be to get information that the manipulator-now-slave was involved and turn HER in.

She was unable to learn anything new, and the break-out never happened. The day of the execution came. She dutifully attended as part of the military force assigned to carry out the deed, escort the prisoner, protect the queen, etc. For the execution her friend requested that my character behead him with her own hand and her own blade. He said if he had to die, he wanted it to be at the hand of his sweet dear friend. Stomach turning, she did the deed, and as his head rolled off his body, it was smiling at her. At about the same time as this was going on, the other friend grabbed the queen and held a knife to her throat, demanding the release of the condemned friend. He then actually RPd through the motions of slitting her throat. (I seriously would NEVER have gone that far - but that was for the two of them to work out - apparently she accepted it.) I ordered one of the soldiers to restrain the man to take him back to the city while others tended to the queen. But the assassin-master said no, he doesn't go back to the city, he dies here. And it was done.

For the rest of that night, and for a couple of weeks after, all hell broke loose in the guild in all sorts of ways - obviously. Two characters perma-dead, The queen's condition completely unknown - there were claims that she was miraculously saved from death, but she was never seen again. Everyone involved relieved of duty. Wow - really really intense stuff. And unplanned, unscripted. Just going with a situation as it developed.

- Also in AoC, a moment, a scene worthy of the greatest directors and cinematographers. A rivalry, a "love" quadrangle - three women vying for one powerful man, but love really had little to do with it. The rivalry had long since settled, with my character (a different one from the situation above, but the same ruling couple) betraying him in a moment of weakness and being banished from his presence, and the other two rivals taking places as wife and mistress. Long after, we encountered each other in the main social spot. We found ourselves standing in a circle, looking at each other in tense silence. Then the deafening silence was broken by him saying "so we come full circle".


So many more. I won't bore you with them all. I have had the privilege of some wonderful RP moments with some wonderful role players. Some of them were carefully crafted stories, but with great care to make our character roles in the stories true to our characters. We were able to respond as our characters would respond, with the story still advancing properly in the mind of the "director". Most others were completely spontaneous, bringing all of our various pasts and experiences and agendas together in unexpected and dramatic ways.
