Still working on a few kinks...so don't fault me if the radio is on and off a few times here and there >.<

Hello everyone! Just as a reminder and an important note THIS post will be updated with all current information related to RIG Radio and the Social Hub! And now onto business!!!

Greetings RIG members and thanks for checking out the post! I've seen alot of members posting about vent servers here and there and I got impatient and decided to take it upon myself to throw up a vent server! I'm currently in the process of setting it up, and mainly my computer to host a live radio feed through ventrilo for those interested! I'm going to outline a few things about what I hope the RIG Radio Vent server will do for the members interested!

**** RIG RADIO STATIONS**** The plan is to have separate rooms with separate radio stations. Allowing for listeners to be able to swap from room to room to listen to different styles of music. This doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to have stations split up into music styles. As a matter of fact I'd like to stay away from that as much as possible. I'm hoping that these radio stations will all provide a fairly diverse selection of music allowing listeners to possibly listen to some music they've never heard before. Whether or not I'm going to allow listeners to talk amongst themselves while in the radio station hasn't been settled yet. Other RIG members radio stations may not fall into the channels that I'm about to talk about. It's entirely possible and plausible that when another RIG member has his own station it'll air in an entirely new (and as of yet not created) channel As of now there will only be two channels:

*Day*
This is essentially going to be my "fast" radio channel. Any music that I feel has energy and has a pace that I feel allows it to be played during the daytime will get played here. Yea...I know that sounds weird but it's sort of a pet peeve of mine. I've always felt that certain types of music just should not be aired over the radio at 2am. Like Heavy Metal or DnB. My apologies if you disagree...sure I might listen to those tyles of music....just not at 2 o clock in the morning. There really are no hard standards for what music will be considered "Day" music. It just fits in or it doesn't for me.

*Night*
This is essentially going to be my down tempo radio channel. Any music that I feel is mellow enough to be music I would catch myself listening to at 2am will go here. Does that mean you won't find rock music here? Not necessarily. Again I have no standard for what music is considered "Night" music but I assure you there will be a difference. And it wouldn't surprise me one bit if some listeners find themselves preferring one channel over the other.

****THE LOUNGE**** The lounge will be a separate channel for members to be able to chat for a bit without music bothering them during discussion (or if there is music it will be so low it won't serve for much more than simple background noise). Here members can gather and chat about different topics. There will be separate channels in THE LOUNGE to differentiate topics. They are as follows:

*General Discussion*
This is where members can discuss anything and everything that does not fall into the other categories.

*SWTOR Discussion*
This is where members can discuss anything SWTOR related. Theorycrafting, exciting news, PvP discussions, PVE discussions, pretty much anything MMO related will go here. Share all the SWTOR excitement here in this room!

*RIG Discussion*
This is where members can discuss community events or just anything related to the RIG community. Websites, new members, guilds, or other online events where the RIG members can socialize with each other.

Please use common courtesy and respect when in these channels. If 9 people are in the SWTOR Discussion channel and you realize you're chatting more about music and movies with 2 guys and the other 6 people in the chat are still trying to discuss SWTOR please move your conversation to the appropriate channel so you don't derail the other 6 people. This is obviously a case by case thing. I don't intend to be a police officer and come into a room screaming "ZOMG YOU ARE TALKING OFF TOPICZ I'M HERE TO QQ AND PEW PEW". After all, this vent server is for everyone to communicate and bring members together not divide them all into channels. So use your best judgment and courtesy when the situation calls for it. Obviously if all 9 people are talking about music and movies in the SWTOR channel then there's not really a problem.....unless someone else logs in and joins expecting a SWTOR discussion

Password: The password for the Vent channel will likely NOT be posted here. I'd appreciate if the password was not floated around in general discussions as well and here's my reasoning: This vent is for RIG MEMBERS. It's one thing to post an IP it's another thing to allow everyone that has viewing access to this site access to our vent server. It would only be an open invitation to griefers, spammers or any other host of unwelcome guests. Because of this, for now I will personally message everyone interested in joining the vent server the password. Again, the reason for this is because by receiving a PM from a RIG member I'll know that you are indeed a RIG member and all is well. NO RIG MEMBER will be turned down access to vent. The password for the site is already set even though the IP address isn't posted here. So for those that think they may be interested shoot me a PM here on the RIG site with "VENTRILO PASSWORD" as the subject title. You don't really have to even say anything else in the PM if you don't want to.

Vent Max Capacity: For now the vent server only holds up to 35 simultaneous users. This will likely change depending on the amount of members that actively use vent. Obviously the more radio channels we have the more likely this will increase as well since each active radio channel will effectively take up a user's slot and therefore allowing less people onto the server.

As of right now I personally will only have one active radio station on at a time. That means only one of the channels will be active..."Day" or "Night". I bet you can guess when one will stop playing and the other start . This is more a limitation of my knowledge than my hardware. I'm pretty positive I can figure out a way to split channels and allow each channel to play different playlists at the same time but given the mechanics of how I will be airing the radio stations when they're first up and running I won't be able to do this.

That's about it guys. I know I've left some stuff out but for now I think I'll leave it at that. For all members that are interested in creating a station on the vent server feel free to hit me up with a PM (I'm still looking at you Lugaidh). Hopefully we can get this ball rolling pretty early. If anyone has any questions feel free to post it here in this thread or send me a PM. I hope Selven and TY-Odi don't mind me getting the jump on this thing. Seemed like there has been alot of talk about doing this and no action : )

Yea I was actually wanting to have it all up and running by today. But I realized how long it would take me to type everything out and stuff so I figured I'd post it early. The real reason everything's not ALREADY posted (IP Adress and stuff) is because I just got a new Solid State HD and I'm trying to backup all my music files and stuff to convert to Windows 7 on it. So basically I'm going to have to re-upload all my music files onto my new SSHD and I thought it would be stupid for me to have the RIG Radio up and running for like...two days and then down again. Butl I should have this all handled by Friday at the latest. I'll update tomorrow with maybe a Premiere airing time for the first time RIG Radio goes live.

LOL yeah I feel your look Jedi. I've actually had vent for a long time now so when it's up and running we can jump into a channel and you can give me the skinny on setting up a playlist. Most of my music is on itunes but I'm pretty sure I have the mp3 file versions if necessary.

No rush at all Jedin. I have about 45,000 songs (most still on CD, Dvd music videos), I'll have to record a "Set" and get it to ya...I can even "voice over" my breaks lol. I've done live mixes on mainstream radio, plus help run a pirate station in San Diego in 05-07'...Great stuff!

Hey guys. Figured I'd give you all an update! I've got my Solid State HD installed and Windows 7 running now! Since it's solidstate it's only 128gigs....I don't know if you guys seen the priceline for these things but once you go over 200 gigs with a solidstate they start getting around the $400 price range >.< Anywho I'm slaving my old HD when I get back from work tomorrow. I've got all my music backed up so now it's just a matter of re uploading it....I think I'm probably going to have to reformat my old HD so Windows 7 will read it. Not sure yet. Anywho it's like 1:40am and I have work at 7:30am so I'm gonna hit the sack. That also means I'll be a day behind. I was aiming for Friday night but I probably won't have everything running till Saturday instead. Sorry about the delays guys but I assure you I'm working as fast as I can

I'll edit the first post sometime tomorrow (possibly late tomorrow) with a Saturday premiere time for when RIG Radio goes live. About 30 minutes prior to my RIG Radio going "Live" I'll have the IP address for Vent posted. Hey guys! Everything seems to be running pretty well. I'm planning on premiering the Radio tomorrow at around 12pm Eastern. I know that's late for some of you...but unfortunately I'm working holiday hours (that means late nights) and I won't be getting home till right around 11:30. At which point the main post will already be updated with the IP address for the VENT channel. So the server itself will be open to RIG members 30 minutes prior to the Radio actually turning on.

So if you're a night owl like me, or if you just want to swing by and keep me company in vent for a bit swing in. I'll definitely be up for chatting before the radio turns on but depending on whether or not I finish configuring my audio settings I may not be able to join the actual chat channels when I have the radio streaming live. For multiple reasons I have the two radio channels "Day" and "Night" as muted channels. That means for the time being you can listen but cannot speak while listening in on the radio channels. All other channels are of course regular vent channels. I may change this in the future depending on feedback from listeners!

The two radio channels are using a different codec than the other vent servers so that the music is a bit more high quality and does not have as much static. Also by default I'll have the music turned down to a reasonable level (that means fairly low) to keep distortion from mucking up the sound on my end. That means if you find the music too low you can either turn your speakers up or manually change the volume of my radio host on your end through your own Vent settings. Trust me....it's better this way than me forcing more higher decibels through vent. Me and my roomie have been messing with the audio for a while now and I think it sounds pretty enjoyable myself, but maybe I'll be able to get it even more clear in the future.

lol. It's no problem dude. I wasn't expecting too many people anyway. I know it's late for me AND it's on a Saturday. I'm using this time to finish compiling playlists (and used the first hour to fix some technical issues I was having lol).
